The idea as such is not new, and is already well-known in the United Kingdom and other countries, but it is the first time in Malta that this type of shared office has been established. We are talking about the Soho Office Hotels. The idea: A number of small businesses get together to share an office. This lowers the cost for the individual companies, and they can benefit from the infrastructure of the office, such as a meeting room, a kitchen or a reception where clients can be received.
“The concept is cool because instead of sitting in a dull, dark office in the outskirts of Malta or maybe working from home you can be part of a dynamic and inspiring work environment in this beautiful office in a prime location”, says a promoter of the Soho Office Hotel in an interview with the local newspaper The Malta Independent.
I personally think the idea is very good, especially for companies in the start-up phase. It is probably much more pleasant not to be alone in the office, and to have the opportunity to network with other people. Of course, the financial aspect is also paramount, and small businesses can benefit from exchange with other companies, which often leads to new solutions that might not have been thought of otherwise.
The Soho Office Hotels are centrally located in Paceville, and they provide a desk with Internet connection, a meeting room, a kitchen, a receptionist, as well as a dedicated mailbox. You can get an office desk for as low as €285 a month when a 1-year minimum term contract is signed. Another advantage of this concept is also that additional spaces can be rented, and it is relatively flexible when you want to increase your team size. However, when your company has a certain size, it will be necessary to have a separate office, so that you can fully concentrate on your own company. However, at Dr. Werner & Partner we believe that this concept is very useful for start-up companies, and we are pleased that Malta has taken yet another step towards improving the infrastructure for entrepreneurs.
