Are you accustomed to dining out in a fancy restaurant at the weekend, or to going on weekend-trips to get away from daily routine? Are you feeling stressed from your job, and would like to take a break from working? Believe me, I know these feelings from when I used to live in London. It is a great and bustling city, but one day I had enough of the hustle and bustle, and decided to move to Malta. To this day, I have not regretted the decision, and that is why I would like to tell you a little bit about what makes life in Malta worth living for me.
The geographical position and the climate beat London
It is naturally very appealing to go out with friends to a nice restaurant or a cocktail bar on a Saturday night, but waking up to a rainy Sunday was not very enjoyable. In Malta, the sun shines all year round, and you can spend a lot of time outdoors and at the sea. This brings inner peace to everyday life, and is relaxing in itself. The proximity to Italy, and the cleanest waters in the Mediterranean put Malta at the first place geographically. And of course, you can find great restaurants and cocktail bars in Malta as well!
The country, the people, and their culture
London is a diverse city, and offers something for every taste. The culture is constantly changing. What I like about Malta though are the long-standing traditions, and that the people cherish their culture. This conveys consistency. Of course, you don’t have to like everything, and Malta probably has some downsides as well, but overall I am very happy here, and I enjoy my life on the island. However, this is maybe also due to the fact that I regularly leave the island, and don’t spend 365 days a year here. Variety adds some spice to life, and leaving makes me look forward to returning. And with this in mind, I would like to finish today’s post with the words of Goethe: Only one who knows longing understands what I suffer!
