SmartCity Malta – The future at your doorstep

Susan MeierSusan MeierUpdated 2 min read.md

SmartCity Malta is located in Kalkara, on the east-coast of Malta, just south of Valletta and the Three Cities. The development of the technology park started in 2008, and the first offices were completed in 2010. The project should be completed in 2021. The idea of this township is to create an area dedicated to business, and not just to provide offices, but a complete infrastructure and residential areas.

Sleek and modern design

The development area covers around 360,000m², of which around 160,000m² are dedicated to business spaces, about 118,000m² to recreational purposes and 60,000m² to residential areas. The models for the project are Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City. Once completed, SmartCity would have enough space to provide 11,000 jobs.

The buildings are built to highest standards, offering contemporary design in a unique environment. Even though it is not fully completed yet, the completed parts are already in use and offer office spaces, an amazing animated fountain with evening light shows and incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Laguna Walk had just been inaugurated in July, and the celebrations included a spectacular fountain show synchronised with fireworks. SmartCity Malta has now become a dynamic venue for events, and it features an open-air amphitheatre and restaurants.

Could SmartCity Malta be a good location for my company?

Establishing a company in Malta will also mean that you have to think about where to establish your offices. Depending on the type of business you are operating – or want to operate – SmartCity may be an option for you. However, if your company operations requires hiring many workers, it may be wiser to choose a centrally located office, as it is not particularly easy getting to and from Smart City if you do not own a car. For example, many iGaming companies in Malta are centrally located and close to residential areas in Sliema, St. Julians’s, Msida or Ta’Xbiex.

If you are interested in moving your business operations to Malta, and you would like more information on how to proceed, feel free to contact us at the office of Dr. Werner & Partner. We are specialised in company formations and can also advise you which location is best suited for your offices.
