Projects Malta Limited was established earlier this spring as a partnership between the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC), Yachting Malta Limited, and the government. The RMYC and Yachting Malta hold a 49% stake in the venture, while the government retains a 51% majority interest. According to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, the project is designed to have a positive impact on both the yachting and tourism industries. The aim is to attract high-profile yachting events, such as boat shows, conferences, and regattas. Ultimately, the goal is to generate increased revenue for the economy, make Malta a more attractive destination for yacht owners, and enhance the island's international reputation.
Malta has been actively promoting its shipping register for some time. Thanks to its attractive structures for commercial fleets and private yacht owners, the country now boasts the sixth-largest shipping register in the world and the largest in Europe. Key benefits include low registration and administrative costs, as well as favourable tax rates for those choosing to buy a yacht or flag it in Malta.
The islands have evolved into a popular hotspot, not only for yacht owners but also for sailing enthusiasts participating in regattas and those who simply want to enjoy the clear waters of the Mediterranean. With its rich history, culture, and stunning coastline, Malta has plenty to offer and is well worth a visit.
If you would like more information on registering a yacht in Malta, please feel free to contact us at Dr. Werner & Partners. We specialise in guiding clients through the necessary steps for purchasing and registering a vessel. It is also worth noting that your yacht does not need to be permanently berthed in Malta; it simply needs to be present during the registration process, after which it can be moored wherever you prefer.
