More and more gaming operators are expanding their business to Malta to work on new projects. The gaming industry in Malta is a very large sector. In today’s post, I would like to illuminate the background a little bit more.
The EU member state Malta is an attractive destination
A major reason for the relocation of company headquarters is that Malta is an EU member state. The relocation has many advantages for companies that had been active in Eastern Europe previously (for example, the Ukraine). Although simplified trade plays a minor role, just being in the European Union can have an advantage with licensing issues. Having headquarters in the EU proves also to be an advantage when looking for investors, as it makes the company more credible in general.
Malta promotes the gaming industry
I have already mentioned in previous posts that Malta has a very good infrastructure for the gaming industry. They are deliberately luring them onto the island with various investment programs and benefit options. Malta is hoping to create a new industry that will continuously grow. In fact, the sector has boomed in the last few years, and it can pay out for the Maltese government to invest in this industry.
Tax relief as an incentive for companies
Other than the above mentioned reasons for a relocation to Malta, the tax burden also plays an important role. Who would not like having to pay less taxes, especially to a such high extent, like it is the case in Malta. Getting a tax refund can lower the tax burden to 5%. However, this does not generally apply to every company. It is the result of a tax scheme for foreigners that refunds 6/7 (meaning 30% of the 35%) of the corporation tax.
