Relocation Services - What you need to know

Relocation to Malta can occur for many different reasons. DW&P Dr. Werner & Partners has already assisted hundreds of clients with their move to Malta, including extensive support for their families and close relatives. Some clients wish to spend their retirement in Malta, while others seek employment opportunities on the island. Undoubtedly, the good weather makes Malta the most attractive address in the Mediterranean! Other clients may just want a change from their current work environment or simply want to enjoy the opportunity to live by the sea. The reasons for moving are mostly professional and/or personal. Nonetheless, tax considerations play a significant role in every decision. It is no secret that Malta offers very attractive and comprehensive opportunities for those who decide to move here. Therefore, tax and/or legal advice has played an extremely important role in every relocation planning we have supported. In fact, this is one of our core competencies and personal expertise that we offer to all clients who are willing to give us this “leap of faith”. Relocation services are generally a direct result of our clear and tailored international and/or national tax advice. Based on the expertise of our specialists, we present you with a comprehensive legal and structural presentation for review and consideration. This is often “tailored” to meet your needs and requirements – taking into account all the legal and tax implications arising from the proposed move. Here at DW&P Dr. Werner & Partners, we believe that the well-being of our clients must always come first. Your needs and concerns will be our immediate priority as we strive to ensure that your move and settlement go smoothly and “stress-free”. For this reason, DW&P Dr. Werner & Partners is the logical choice for anyone considering a move to sunny Malta. The Maastricht Treaty introduced the concept of Union citizenship, which automatically applies to every national of a Member State. It is this Union citizenship that underpins the right of persons to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States. Articles 79 and 80 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) define the responsibilities in the area of regular immigration as follows: The EU is responsible for establishing the conditions for entry and lawful residence of third-country nationals in a Member State, including for family reunification purposes. Member States retain the right to determine the volume of admission of third-country nationals for job-seeking purposes.

EU/EEA nationals planning to move to Malta for an indefinite period must register with the local authorities no later than three months after arrival. Non-EU/EEA nationals intending to stay in Malta for more than 90 days must apply for a temporary residence permit, which either requires proof of financial independence or an application for a work visa. Citizens staying in Malta for more than three months must register with the Maltese authorities. At DW&P Dr. Werner & Partners, we understand the uncertainty this situation can bring – which authorities to report to and which application forms to submit, depending on each individual or even their family members. The Department for Citizenship and Expatriates Affairs (Identity Malta) handles all relocation applications for residence in Malta (Single Work Permit for non-EU nationals = third-country nationals) and issues the permit for residence and employment in Malta.

Our relocation services are aimed at individuals, families, and businesses planning a smooth move to Malta. Whether you want to enjoy Malta’s pleasant climate and high quality of life as a retiree or seek new career opportunities as a professional, our tailor-made solutions provide the right support for every need. Companies relocating their business operations to Malta or establishing a new branch there also benefit from our extensive expertise and experience. Non-EU nationals receive special support in applying for residence permits and work permits to ensure all legal requirements are met.

Our relocation service includes assistance with viewings and recommendations for finding a home address (rental or purchase). We advise and handle communication with the local authorities regarding all necessary registrations. We can also assist with driver’s license exchange, insurance, etc. Legal advice can be obtained if needed. Foreigners moving to Malta may not be aware of all the mandatory requirements of local authorities. Our service makes the entire process more transparent and can guarantee that all necessary registrations are in place. You don’t have to worry about any changes, as we will also take care of the corresponding updates to the regulations.

You don’t have to worry about any changes, as we also take care of informing the authorities accordingly. We keep track of legal changes and new information from the government and other authorities and can therefore proactively inform you if you need to file or report anything new. Our network also includes contacts with excellent real estate agents here in Malta who we can recommend when looking for an apartment or house.

Is Malta safe?

Malta is a politically stable parliamentary republic with a free press and is considered a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for investor business activities. There are no international sanctions against Malta, which can be attributed to the country’s transparent administration and economy, a strict legal system with little impunity, and limited scope for arbitrary public spending. Maltese authorities have not identified any terrorism financing activities, and Maltese financial regulators assess the risk of terrorism financing as low.
