Malta visitor numbers expected to grow in 2015

The Malta International Airport recorded a record number in visitors last year, with almost 4.3 million visitors. According to estimates, this figure is expected to grow by 2%. Reason for this growth is additional routes and airlines that expanded their route network to Malta. Last year’s result was already an increase of 6.4% compared to the year 2013.

This last year was a great year for the airport and the tourism industry, as more visitors also bring more money into the country. The numbers of tourists were rising every month, and estimates for this year are equally positive. CEO of the MIA, Alan Borg said that the strategy of Malta to attract more traffic is showing results. The airport has also many planned investments that will be carried out over the course of 2015. Among other things, the improvements include an apron and taxiway, an expansion of the terminal building, improvements for the runway, a new emergency operations centre and improvements to the high voltage network. Total cost for the improvements will amount to around €4 million.

Not only Malta’s tourism industry and visitor numbers are growing, also the number of companies moving to the islands is on the rise. For example, the number of licensed iGaming operators rose by 25%. The general development of Malta’s economy is positive through and through, and especially last year the country has broken many records. It is certainly a good time to consider the opportunities Malta has to offer if you are looking into relocating to Malta in order to improve your personal situation or that of your company.
