GO is investing over 50 million euros in fibre optics

One of the main Internet and telephony providers in Malta is the company GO. They have now announced that they are launching a new project in the coming weeks which will provide fibre-optic Internet services to over 33,000 households. Over 17,000 households, that are mostly located in Sliema and St Julian’s, are already connected to the fibre-optic network. The company has an ambitious project to offer Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) nationwide, and they will be investing over 50 million euros into the infrastructure over the next five years.

The households that are already connected to the fibre network are now able to switch their Internet from cable to fibre-optic, and they can also choose to stay on their current Internet plans. However, the company will soon publish a range of superfast Internet plans. More details on prices and connection speeds are currently not available. However, fibre-optic connections are paving the way to Internet speed demands of the future.

The changes to fibre optics are also interesting for the iGaming and finance industry, as they use most of the capacities. The government and the Internet service providers have invested heavily into the infrastructure of Malta to ensure that the islands are connected with the best possible performance. As many of the companies in Malta are offering Internet services, it is crucial for the country to offer fast and stable Internet connections. And Malta is on the right track! The country offers some of the fastest Internet connections, and even the prices are very reasonable in comparison to other European countries. They are also working on improving the capacities of the data centres. In the end, it is not only businesses that benefit from the fast connections, also private households are connected to the same network. This means that if you love playing online games you will have the connection speeds and low pings needed for a great performance.
