Sliema and St. Julians – Popular but expensive

The two most popular towns in Malta are Sliema and St. Julians. Especially expatriates working in the finance and iGaming industries often choose these localities and rent apartments there. The prices for rent have gone up significantly in the last years, as the demand for apartments rose dramatically. But what makes these places so popular?

The nightlife in Malta centres mainly around Paceville in St. Julians. This does not mean that there are no other bars or clubs on the islands, but most of them are located around a small block of streets in the heart of St. Julians. Many people living and working in Malta are relatively young, so going out and socialising is an important factor.

There are an abundance of good restaurants. Many people like their culinary experiences. If you are looking for a great variety of different cuisines, then you will not be disappointed in Sliema or St. Julians. There are many high-class, middle-class and cheaper restaurants for virtually every taste and budget.

Many companies have their offices in Sliema, St. Julians or adjoining Gzira. Since commuting in Malta can only be done by using the public bus system, many people choose to live in walking distance of their jobs. For companies it is convenient to rent office spaces there, as the locations are convenient and easy to reach by employees and clients.

Another advantage when living in Sliema is the close proximity to the sea. If you are willing to pay more rent you can even get a nice apartment with stunning sea views The rocky beaches are very popular, but not too crowded, as they stretch over a few kilometres. Swimming and snorkelling are popular summer activities in Malta, and many people enjoy their lunch by the sea.
