For the third year in a row Pokerlistings is organising the largest international poker tournament in Malta. Over 1,400 foreign and local poker players have already registered, and they all will be battling for the main prize of a guaranteed €500,000. The buy-in for the tournament is €550. The event will be held this weekend at the Hilton Hotel in the Grand Masters Suite. The event started yesterday, and it will continue until Sunday. This year was also record-breaking, as there were 888 entries last year and almost twice as many this year.
The tournament has become increasingly popular in the last years, and players from all over the world are participating. Contestants are mostly from Britain, Scandinavia, Italy and Malta, but there are also a few visitors from the US and Canada. The event is also known as the friendliest high-value poker tournament with low-stakes in Europe, and this year again, there will be a lot of parties and celebrations accompanying the event.
Malta has become a very popular gaming destination. The industry of the island in the heart of the Mediterranean is heavily focused on Internet-based services, online gaming being one of them. There are a few land-based casinos in Malta, and events are held regularly. For example, the EPT hosted events in Malta, and the first iGaming Summit Sigma took place last week. Malta’s reputation for gaming and remote gaming services is outstanding. There are currently over 300 registered iGaming companies, and the number is growing. The iGaming industry has become a major contributor of the GDP in Malta, employing over 10,000 people. It is a growing sector that gains more and more recognition. We are waiting to see what other events are going to happen in the future.
