Malta’s largest entertainment provider is the Eden Leisure group. In December last year they have won the bid for a casino license for an additional land-based casino in Malta. In the meantime they have chosen a partner to operate the casino and signed an agreement with Olympic casino in January.
Olympic is a well-known provider for gaming services, and operates 97 gambling web pages in seven countries, namely in the Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Italy Slovakia, Belarus and Poland. The company is publicly traded on the stock exchanges in Tallinn and Warsaw, and it currently employs over 2.600 people. Expanding to Malta will be a great opportunity for the group to expand their activities.
The casino from the Eden Leisure is going to be in the Intercontinental Malta hotel, and works on the casino premises have already started. The budget for the project is €31 million. The Holiday Inn Express Hotel is planned as an addition to the Intercontinental Malta, and it is scheduled to reopen in April. The casino is scheduled to be completed and opened towards the end of the year. The ambitious project will create at least 300 full-time jobs, of which over 170 will be at the casino.
The new conference centre at the Bay Arena will also be used as part of the casino, and the operator will be able to host massive poker tournaments on an area of 3,600 m². The casino itself will occupy an area of 2,800 m², and become one of the biggest in Malta.
The other two largest casinos in Malta are the Dragonara and the Casino at Portomaso. Eden Leisure is now going to be a part of the gambling industry in Malta, and we are excited to see how the casino will prosper.
