As I have already talked about in previous posts, the Maltese islands are becoming more and more popular with the filming industry. This is no coincidence. The government of Malta is heavily promoting the film industry and film production companies can take advantage of several incentives when they choose Malta as a filming location.
Now the Belgian film production company Studio 100 has decided to shoot a feature length adventure movie in Malta. It is their second movie shoot in Malta, the first one was Pirate Pete and the Sea Monster in 2013. Malta and Gozo will now serve as a backdrop for the new movie Mega Mindy versus Rox. The two characters are among the most popular on Belgian children’s TV and they will meet each other in the new feature film.
According to the Minister for Tourism, Edward Zammit Lewis, the movie is an excellent marketing opportunity for Malta and Gozo and it has potential for future screen tourism activities. Since the two main characters are already very popular in the Netherlands and Belgium the tourism industry of Malta will likely benefit from this as well, with more visitors coming to the islands and growing awareness of Malta as a holiday destination.
As mentioned before, the film industry in Malta is growing because of the marketing efforts of the Maltese government and also because of the incentives film companies can get if they choose Malta or Gozo for their film productions. The incentives include cash rebates, VAT refunds and other financial benefits.
