A new government foundation has been established in Malta: The Responsible Gaming Foundation. The organisation aims to create awareness for responsible gambling, it supports research regarding responsible gaming, and it creates awareness campaigns. The foundation will also fund projects that support alternative activities.
Together with the foundation, its website and social network pages, the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme (CSRP) was also be launched. This programme will fund initiatives that are set up by organisations and companies to manage leisure activities as an alternative to gambling. The website will provide professional guidance for problem gamblers through a chat facility.
Jose Herrera, the parliamentary secretary, explained the aim of the foundation, and why it is necessary to have it. The gaming industry is one of the largest industries in Malta, and unfortunately, the nature of the industry bears some risks. At EU level between 0.5 and 2% of the players develop an addiction to gambling, and young players are at the highest risk. The foundation’s aim is to strengthen the industry and the trust that players have in the companies.
As outlined in the budget of Malta for 2015, Gaming Malta (an organisation aimed to promote Malta as a gaming jurisdiction) will also be launched, and together with the Gaming Academy (a training centre for specific skills regarding the gaming industry) they will further strengthen the reputation and future of the gaming industry in Malta.
The iGaming industry in Malta is a growing sector, and each year the LGA issues more licences to operators. The Maltese licence is one of the most popular licences to acquire, as the licence has a very good reputation with the players, and the Maltese company structure allows for a relatively low tax burden if certain criteria are met. If you are interested in the application process for a remote gaming licence from Malta, you are welcome to contact the office of Dr. Werner & Partner.
