How to obtain an iGaming licence in Malta

Malta is one of the few European countries that issue remote gaming licences and regulate the market. The LGA (Lotteries and Gaming Authority) has a very good reputation with the companies and the players, as they apply strict regulations with regards to random number generators, payouts, player protection, gambling addiction and general compliance of the licensee.

The application process is divided into different stages. Stage 1 is the LGA’s analysis regarding relevant information about the involved persons. This will also involve handing in all the relevant documentation needed. Once this stage has been completed, stage 2 will commence. The compliance department will assess every aspect of the business and technical side of the remote gaming operation. If this is also successfully completed, the applicant will be issued a temporary licence, which is valid for six months. In this time, the applicant has two carry out his business, which will then be audited and reviewed for compliance before he will be issued with the actual licence. The iGaming licence in Malta is valid for five years. After this time it can be renewed, providing the licensee has been compliant with the regulations.
