There is a lot going on in Malta, especially in the summer. Aside form the many religious Festas that can be found all over the islands every weekend, there are many other events celebrating the Maltese culture, history, food or just a good lifestyle. In this article I would like to highlight a few of these events, but of course, there are a lot more. Whether you are living in Malta or you are visiting, the events calendar offers something for every taste and is worth taking a look at.
The international food festival
On May 29th and 30th, the International food festival will be held at the Mdina ditch and professional chefs will be offering culinary specialties from six different parts of the world: Malta, America, Asia, Arabia, Spain and Italy. 450th anniversary of the great siege of Malta in 1565
An important historic event of Maltese history is the great siege that took place in 1565. The ottoman empire tried to invade Malta, but they were expelled by around 2,000 foot soldiers of the Knights Hospitaller. The country now celebrates the 450th anniversary of this event, and there will be re-enactments, exhibitions and seminars. More information about the event is available here.
Garmin Triathlon
There are a variety of sports events in Malta, most of them usually before the summer begins. The Garmin Malta Triathlon is in its 8th year and is held on the 17th of May. Contestants have to swim 1.9 km, cycle 90 km and run 21 km. This triathlon is surely not for light-weights, also considering that it is already very hot!
Earth Garden Reggae and world music festival
Probably Malta’s most popular festival is Earth Garden. Held from the 5-7th of June in the Ta’Qali National Park it will offer several stages with local and international artists. It is possible to camp on the site or to visit the festival whenever you want. Music style is mostly Reggae and world music, and you will be able to see some of Malta’s most famous artists.
