MSC Fantasia expected to bring 120.000 passengers to Malta

The island nation Malta has been a popular destination for cruise liners sailing the Mediterranean. The tourists aboard the cruise liners make up a significant amount of visitors every year, and they contribute millions of euros to the Maltese economy.

A new route has been introduced now, and the MSC Fantasia has started their cruise from the grand harbour in Valletta and sailed to Palma de Mallorca and other destinations. It is expected that the cruise liner will bring over 120,000 passengers to Malta between April and November this year. These additional tourists will inject over 9 million euros into the economy of Malta while discovering the beauty of the islands and the rich culture. The itinerary of the MSC Fantasia is stretched over eight days, starting in Malta and taking the passengers to Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Naples and Sicily, and visitors have the chance to explore these lovely cities in the Mediterranean.

The warm climate and the pristine waters, as well as the rich culture and interesting history have contributed to a growing tourism industry in Malta. In February 2015 there was an increase of 14.1% in visitor numbers compared to the same month of 2014. These visitors also stayed 6.6% more nights than in the previous year. Every year over 1.5 million people visit Malta, and the numbers are growing. The reputation of Malta as a holiday destination also has a very positive effect on the Maltese economy. Tourism is one of the largest industries on the islands and a growing industry also means more work opportunities for Maltese residents and people who come to Malta for the summer.

Many people have chosen to stay in Malta to work, as the island provides great opportunities for skilled workers from all over the world. It is not only the weather that is so attractive, the country also offers a relatively low income tax as well as low contributions to national insurance. The interesting taxation opportunities also turned Malta into an interesting location for companies seeking to optimise their tax burden.
